Taking Stock

Hi YP,

Thanks for having me this morning.

We started with Metta Meditation. Metta Meditation is a good way to cultivate kindness, gentleness and happiness. Our heart is like a lotus flower, rough skin on the outside. Cultivate it well and the petals will open up to reveal the soft, tender and fragment inner core.

Cultivating the mind is what we practice for. We experience anger and sadness once in a while. The pain in the heart happens to all of us. Just remember that everything is temporary, it will soon come to pass. We also discussed the process of anger. The monster in us gets smellier and uglier as it feeds on our anger. The turmoil and agitation in the heart grows and the monster grows. Same with sadness, that unexplained sadness in you. Once we meditate, we are aware, aware of the mental processes in us. We will discuss more in due course.

As we take stock, we are also mindful of the NOT GOOD ENOUGH syndrome in the media. A new I-phone will only give us temporary pleasure. Very soon, they are going to tell you what you have is not good enough. They will also tell you your features are not good enough, the bag that you carry is not good enough and the shoes that you wear are not good enough etc. Careful you fall into the trap.

As we take stock, we want to be good and we want to walk the path of peace, this is what happiness is.

The coaches are here to guild you on this path. As in ball games, coaches do not play the game. You will have to walk path, one step at a time. The coaches are at the sidelines, cheering and rejoicing at each and every step you take.

I had fun and I hope you did too.

My next talk will be on 051210, titled BEFORE PUSHBACK. I am looking forward to seeing many of you.

The 4 Finger Pianist

Wow #2

Ajahn Chah

Do not try to become anything.
Do not make yourself into anything.
Do not be a meditator.
Do not become enlightened.
When you sit, let it be.
What you walk, let it be.
Grasp at nothing.
Resist nothing.
If you haven't wept deeply, you haven't begun to meditate.

YO!!! Brian here! :-)

Hey People! :-)
I sort of made a deal with "Coach" Bita. She allows me to be a contributor and I will HAVE to help her design the blog ( which I'm TOTALLY AWESOME at ) but like I said ONLY help so I can't really do much of the pro stuff I usually do...sad case...

November 07, 2010,

Singapore, Buddhist Fellowship

Wow! Wow! What a fabulous Sunday it was today!! :)

Today marks the 1st YP Sunday Service at Buddhist Fellowship. "YP" as you would have intelligently guessed by now ... it means "Young People"! :)

When the door opened for Service at 10.15am, throngs of young worshippers entered the Dhamma Hall. Oh, what a holy Sunday it would be as I met the smiling faces! :) So exciting!

Everyone who came were so COOL & FUN!

Our "Bb" (bell bearer), Soon, begun our YP Sunday with the sounds of bells... Oh, what a magnificient tinkling of mindfulness as the echoes filled the air.

Soon (pun unintended... hee hee), we were led into our "Puja" (offering) time with our own "Fashion Couture", Hugo, and "Miss Peace", Phionna. LOL :)
... ...

In Pali :

Namo tassa bhagavato, arahato, samma, sambuddhasa
Namo tassa bhagavato, arahato, samma, sambuddhasa
Namo tassa bhagavato, arahato, samma, sambuddhasa

What it means in English :

Honour to Him, the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Fully-Enlightened One (x3)

I was eager to know all the "New Faces" (ahem... was this not a tagline of the recent TNP beautiful faces?? haha). Hmmm... I remembered all the 22 names ! How many did you remember??? :?

YPs (sounds like yuppies) were like little jumpy beans... keeping seated for too long is not recommended.
Smarty Coaches wer right... we need to stretch... we were brought downstairs "pink panthering" our way through the Adult Sunday Service (sorry mommy, sorry daddy :))...

Our next task was challenging... HAHAHA... down our throats with cool nice drink!! Thank you Coaches!

Oh Oh... but did anyone tell you not to accept a gift without favors? ... Too Late!

Groups of 4-5 were broken up and we had to do the "hardest thing" of the day !! (Funny!)

We had to come up with characteristics of the new YP t-shirt! Aha!

Artistic and creative juices were overflowing...
I am still reeling with the idea of having a PIG(er... yah.. right... animal oink oink) on a T-shirt design! And what's more, these YPs are really Yippeess... they want the shirt in HOT PINK!!??

Just can't wait to see the outcome and wear the T-Shirt!! er.... second thoughts... not quite sure..

At the end of the day, we were All 4 one & one 4 All - WHOOSH!

Such a HIGH feeling overcoming me leaving me to keep smiling throughout this week... Can't wait till next Sunday & our movie date!
