Sports.

The academic year will start soon. Besides classroom work there will be calls for you to joint various activities. I would strongly recommend participation in sports.
Education encompasses mental and physical activities, both are important. You are at the stage of your life where you are rapidly growing, smarter and stronger. A wholesome life not only requires good academic results, it also requires good education in physical activities. Sports not only train you to be strong and healthy, it also teaches you many lessons.

There are many jobs out there that require good hand-eye coordination, like surgeons, dentists, master craftsmen and engineers among others. Pilots need the coordination of their hands, legs and eyes to fly. These occupations also require multi-tasking. Multi-tasking means to be able to analyze and act simultaneously. Sports train you to perfect this ability.

In sports, you experience winning and losing. As in life we sometimes win and we sometimes lose. We must learn to win and lose graciously. Be humble when you win and be happy to learn lessons when you lose. View every lost as opportunity to emerge richer. Sports also enrich us with the responsibility of leadership and the humility of being led. Good sportsmanship is to respect those worthy of respect and praise those worthy of praise.

As you grow to have a more sophisticated mind and a stronger body, lay life is all about balance - the material and the spiritual, self and others, the mind and the body and work and play. The extreme of any path is unwise.

All the best to the New Year and may you have the wisdom to direct yourself to the right path in this exciting time of your life.

Before Push Back

A successful push back requires the team work of many highly skilled professionals. This morning we learnt about the job of the load master, the inflight kitchen chef, the check in counter officer, the security officer, the dispatcher, the meteorologist, the cabin crew, the maintenance engineer, the marshaller, the heavy duty push-pull tug driver, the air traffic controller and the pilots among others.

We live in an interdependent world. Completing complex tasks requires the coordination of many well trained people and we need good communication skill to interact with others. Good speech, good actions, good livelihood and good effort go hand in hand. Unskillful interaction with others can lead to stress, anger and conflict.

We learn that happiness is solitude and silence, peace and tranquility. Frequent practice of sitting in a corner with the legs crossed, eyes closed gives us the moment of solitude and silence, peace and tranquility. Many good things in life are for free.

Our next talk will be on 090111, school term would have started. Many of you will be in a new school that may or may not be your choice. You will need to deal with new people and make new friends. Is the person who is the most popular a good friend? Will you be happy with such friendship? We will discuss TRUE FRIENDS.

Have a happy holidayJ

Coach James Khoo.

Good communication skill means to speak what is true, to use words that are motivational and inspiring. It includes keeping quiet and listening well. Asking questions also means good communication.
